I have a Hi-Fi VCR (Emerson VC977) that developed a jitter
problem after physically moving the VCR. The audio is fine.

My question is, is this simply a problem of misaligned heads,
of which I might be able to fix, or is it some deeper more
involved trouble?

The tracking adjustment won't cure the problem.
