I was trying to put my viewpoint into words but you have made it unnecessary. The FDA, the CDC-NIAID and the NIH are all between a rock and a hard place. They as organizations of PEOPLE make mistakes but they must take the heat also. Witness their willingness to implement the parallel track (compassionate use) drug exploration method with DDI and the heat they take from sensationalizing media and uninvolved "do gooders" when 6 out of 8000 people on the parallel track died. The reason we had Pentamadine available in the early days was due to a policy of the government/cdc to warehouse little used drugs that were unprofitable for drug companies but essential to patients. I have some very strong words for some government officials and bureaucrats, but I must also give my thanks to so many selfless and caring researchers and support staff that spend each day working and trying to help folk like me. No one could hide an important discovery for very long. There are just too many whistleblowers of good conscience to allow that.....Again thanks for your essay. I have saved it and will refer to it often. -- Uucp: ...{gatech,ames,rutgers}!ncar!asuvax!stjhmc!135!38!The."Bird" Internet: The."Bird"@f38.n135.z1.fidonet.org
