None is on record to have opposed it. Mugheirah b. Shu'bah(razi-Allah) narrates: The Prophet(SAW) performed ablution, followed by Massah on his socks and shoes. (Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah). If there are holes in the socks, Massah can still be done and will be considered valid for all intent. Imam Sufyan Thuri rules: "Like others, the Muhajareen and Ansars also had holes in their socks. If Massah on socks had been invalid, the ahadith would have mentioned it." The Condition For Massah On Socks And Shoes ------------------------------------------- Massah on socks and shoes is valid only when before putting them on, one had ablution. Narrates Mugheirah b. Shu'bah: I was in the company of Allah's Apostle on one of the journeys and he went out to answer the call of nature (and after he finished), I poured water and he performed ablution; he washed his face, forearms, and passed his wet hand over his head and over the two 'khuffs' (leather socks). I bent down to take off his socks; he said, "Leave them, I put them on while I was clean." (Bukhari, Muslim, Ahmad) Jemshed Nawaz
