I just lost another 200Mb as the heads trashed the skating rink.
spinning lumps of metal and stepper motors ... Ach! enough!

So whats over-the-horizon or plausible to get the mechanical out of
the loop?  Bubble totally dead?

is ANYBODY working on cheap giga/terra byte scale non-mechanical mass 
storage of suitable latency/thgroughput any more?
