Then, of course, you run into the problem of the receiving box not being able to swallow stuff quickly enough. I seem to recall someone suggesting an etherhose faucet on the back of a Blazer. ISTM that Bill Mayhew did just that, so to speak, by devoting a 3B1 to the Blazer, and hosing it elsewhere. I guess I'm dating myself, but I remember agonizing over ALL that money for a direct connect 1200 bps modem.
