This service is currently being offered free of charge. A simplified view of one such modem in the pool would look like this ... --------------- | IBM/ROLM 9751 | | ___________ | _______________ PSTN >------- Voice (ATI) -------| | | ----------- | | | DATA | ____________ | | INPOOL MODEM | RESOURCES <------- Data (RMDCM) ------| | | ------------ | |______________| | CBX | |_______________| The inpool modem interfaces to the CBX on the voice side via an Analog Telephone Interface (ATI) and to the data side via direct RS-232C cabling to a Rack Mount Data Communications Module (RMDCM). Users dial a PILOT number to access the group of DID numbers tied to the modem pool. (Each inpool modem has a DID number assigned to it, to facilitate off-net testing of the individual modem). Once connected to the modem, the user can place a data call across the CBX network to reach a particular resource. In order to keep up with upgrade/maintenance costs incurred on the modem pool equipment, I have been asked to investigate different options that would allow us to implement means to charge users for this service. I would greatly appreciate ideas/suggestions/pointers that would generate options that I could look at. I'm interested in hardware/software, manufacturers, vendors, implementations, experiences... whatever ! I AM NOT A SUBSCRIBER ON THIS LIST SO PLEASE ADDRESS ALL REPLIES DIRECTLY TO ME. Once I have looked into the different options, I will post a summary to this list. -Mathew ======================================================================== Mathew Mathai | Internet : mathaim@vtvm1.cc.vt.edu Communications Resources | Bitnet : mathaim@vtvm1.bitnet Virginia Tech | Phone : (703) 231 - 4319 Blacksburg, VA 24061-0506 | ========================================================================
