I need some good references, algorithms, code, etc that will allow me
to scale bitmapped images (8-bit, 24-bit, whatever) to a reduced
size.  What I'm looking for is a way to display normally full screen
images in a screen window.  I would get the idea that it would involve
FFTs and pixel averaging but I'd like a good reference or two or some
generalized algorithms...
