Message-ID: <684@digigw.digital.co.jp> Date: 11 Oct 90 07:20:24 GMT Organization: Digital Electronics Corp., Osaka, Japan Lines: 57 Hi, forgive my ignorance, but I'm new to Mac networks. I'm trying to get printer sharing between our SUNs and our MACs. Current configuration as follows: Ethernet backbone --------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | | | | | |Ethertalk |Ethertalk -------------- | | | 4/370 | | | | SunOS 4.0.3| | | -------------- | | --------- --------- | | LocalTalk | | LocalTalk --------------- | |-----------| |-----------| LaserWriter | --------- --------- --------------- MacII MacOS EtherPortII Appletalk for printer access We only have a few MACs on the network and only use Localtalk for printing. Everything else is done via Ethertalk/Ethernet. I'd like to get rid of the Localtalk network completely. I thought RUTGERS CAP would provide that, but I'm having trouble getting it running. I got as far as Claude Scarpelli (scarpell@cnca.cnca-cam.fr) in a recent posting: ie. made the library, made the programs, installed enet, etc. Running aarpd returns: Acquired node number 197 Running aarptest returns: zone MY ZONE this 0.197 gw 0.0 nis 0.0 intf enet0 Running "aarptest 197" returns: ether addr 0:0:0:0:0:0 (Why!?) zone MY ZONE this 0.197 gw 0.0 nis 0.0 intf enet0 I traced aarpd as far as I could. One symptom(?) is that etalk_init() returns 0. The comment beside the return statement says: /* true if okay, 0 o.w. */ If it's not okay, then why not? What am I missing? I assume it timed out? Then, what was it waiting for? Do I need an AppleTalk Internet Router? If so, where can I get one? Other output (for atis, atistest, etherstat, etc.) is similar to Scarpelli's posting. Is there anyone out there who can help me? E-mail responses are preferable to postings. Thanks in advance. _______________________________________________________________ Sandra Ishida Digital Electronics 8-2-52 Nanko-Higashi Suminoeku, Osaka 559 Japan Tel. +81 6 613 1101 Fax. +81 6 613 5888 Internet. sandra@digital.co.jp _______________________________________________________________
