In particular, if one telnets, then /dev/ttyp* is set with mod 111, whereas if one logs in with rlogin, then it is set 666. Why is this? How can I define what the setting should be? I don't want to put chmod commands in /etc/profile or the user's profiles. the systems involved here are Interactive's 386/ix 2.2. Rlogins and telnets are from many different types of machines and terminal servers. -Larry
