Well a *whole* *bunch* of people have mailed me the response "BECAUSE ITS ILLEGAL", at various levels of politeness. OK, ENOUGH ALREADY. When I read that the ROM images were 'available', I assumed (silly me) that meant 'legally available'. I was not advocating violating the copyright of Apples ROMs. Just setting the record straight.
