For anyone who is interested, if pin 4 is low on the monitor port, it boots into high res, otherwise it boots into low/medium. A simple switch on this line will solve the problem, but be careful about using the wrong setting with the wrong screen, as the wrong scan rate could blow it. Alternatively you can just buy a monitor switch box from any good dealer for ~15 pounds, which routes the output through two separate plugs, thus avoiding any danger. Thanks again, Jas.
