I have since found out that my source is not so reliable. It turns out that the Open Look stuff comes expecting to talk to the Interlan TCP/IP driver via /dev/it (found in the Xconnections file), and the Wollongong driver uses /dev/tcp instead. Changing this around fixed everything. Thanks to the several people who sent notes saying that this was possible, and especially to Viet Hoang from AT&T Denver whose several email notes helped us make it all work. I love the net.
