This is my forst posting in the hopes of participating and connecting. I have some questions about the nature and purpose of this endeavor. Firstly, the original handhelds mailing list was pretty much (as far as I was concerned) just a link to comp.sys.handhelds such that everything that was posted to that news-group was also mailed to all of the mailing-list subscribers. This incarnation does not seem to be doing that. My question is whether or not this is a good thing. I do consistently read the news-group so I don't miss the articles in the mailing-list, but there may be merit in continuing the practice. In the same vein, is this mailing-list linked to comp.sys.handhelds in the other direction? (I suppose I will get my answer to this if this email shows up in the news-group.) Is there merit in such an arrangement? Are there draw-backs? I can see advantages in both arrangements and would like to hear what others have to say. Is the focus of the mailing-list the same as that of the news-group? All hand-helds from all manufacturers? All possible topics? Just certain models? How about digests? Of the mailing-list? Of comp.sys.handhelds? How about ``advertising.'' I personally work for a company that produces products and services that are useful to HP hand-held owners and I'm a little weary of having to watch my language for fear that I might inadvertently or directly promote the company. I could see merit in the mailing-list being somewhat more free in this respect. How about connectivity with the HP BBS? Reposting significant articles from there has some merit. It's a local call for me. They might even be co-erced into doing it themselves. This last one brings up the question of volume. Are we going to be shipping large quantities of source code around through the mail? Is this to be encouraged? Discouraged? Well I guess that's enough for now. -- John W.
