What's available currently that is:
- high quality
- good keyboard & display (for a laptop)
- can run a reasonable UNIX implementation
- has appropriate hardware -- big (for a laptop), fast disc
- can run on battery

Pluses:
- built-in or accessory acoustic coupler for phone-booth uucp
- high speed modem and fax capability
- can add a real CRT & keyboard, more disc, more ports, & maybe network at home
- can plug into vehicle lighter socket
