The backup need not be remotely initiated. It can be launched from the Mac being backed up. The Appleshare volume in question is actually a Unix disk being mounted through a Gatorbox. It is essential that the software be capable of doing incremental backups. Currently I am using Redux, which I am very happy with, but I must change because Redux will not properly do incremental backups to a remote volume on a system like mine.
