I suspect this is the source of the problem. Try one of the little (very small -- 150 bytes typical) serial port zappers, to reset the ports after MIDI use. Many MIDI programs leave the ports in horrible shape, notes laying around in the bottom of the port, etc. :-) We had the problem in the lab on everything from Plus's thru ci's, and the program SPCONFIG_RESET (for instance, there are others) clears it all up.
