I just upgraded a standard 2MB NTX system board with the 4MB Apple LW Expansion kit, and only got 5MB, instead of the expected 6MB, to show on the test page. The procedure I followed was: 1. Moved the 4-256K simms from Bank 0 to Bank 2. 2. Left the 4-256K simms in Bank 1 untouched. 3. Put the 4-1MB simms from the kit in Bank 0. Recall that the banks on the system board are numbered from RIGHT to LEFT 0, 1, and 2; that each bank has four simm slots; and that the original 2MB configuration has banks 0 and 1 filled with 256K simms, with bank 2 being empty. Is 6MB an impossible number? Do I need to change the order of the simms. I was the following the 3 rules for installing Apple Memory, namely: 1. Insure that simms of like density are in the same bank. 2. Completely fill a bank. 3. Put the higher density chips in the lower numbered (or lettered) bank. These are the three rules we use when upgrading Macs. Suggestions, comments, even (ghast!) flames??? Thanks. -- Who: L.
