Now that we are moving to 3.3 at our site, I've been wondering
if there is any performance advantage to one or the other of
the tmesh and qstrip pairs.  Our hardware is non-VGX (4D50, 4D85).
I seem to recall comments in this group re: optimized quad
performance on the VGX architecture, but I'm not sure about the
older machines.
