I also can not configure my own kernel because I get all sorts of cc errors (sometimes one error, sometimes others). Like I said, all this is ittermittent. Sometimes rc, man, and more work fine. I suspect all programs occasinonally fail (userdiag, etc) What I have checked: Memory has been checked extensively (I use 4mb clearpoint) swapped cpu boards. I went back to 4.0.3 for one month (heavy use) NO ERRORS of any sort. I do not have any bizzare peripherals (a Crannel scsi box with 2 hp9754s) is all that is on the scsi bus. I have tried twice with one distribution tape, and once with another. so it does not appear to be a bad tape. The finger seems to point to some sort of problem in the 4.1 kernel, but why my machine???? Yechezkal Shimon Gutfreund sgutfreund@gte.com GTE Laboratories, Waltham MA harvard!bunny!sgutfreund
