Basically, Z100 hard disks are attached via a data separator board "bolted" to the top of the hard drive assembly and a Z217 controller board that drops into any empty slot in the card cage. I had an original Z100 10 MB hard disk that died, and needed to replace it with a handy ST225. All I had to do was unplug one drive and plug in the other. Then the PREP and FORMAT stages, and I had a larger (working!) hard disk. If you never had a Z100 hard disk, and so you're short the Z217 and the data separator board, you'll have a bit of a parts hunt. There are sources, and this newsgroup may put you onto some. But don't give up..what you want to do has been done countless times with little sweat and no pain!
