You may enter any of the 256 characters, anywhere. There is no line length limit either. If you know what you are doing, you might even edit binary files. > We think a Hex Editor would do it. There are also a few hex editors which run as GNU emacs modes. I do not want to start a new cycle of religious war about editors. When I was first presented emacs, I've been very reluctant to use it; tired of learning two or three editors each time I was in contact with a new machine or system, they were all more or less alike to me. But emacs shifted my concept of editors to a new level, beyond my wildest dreams (if we limit ourselves to computers, of course ;-).
