Path: utzoo!utgpu!news-server.csri.toronto.edu!cs.utexas.edu!helios!diamond!rajeshg From: rajeshg@diamond.tamu.edu (Rajesh Godbole) Newsgroups: comp.windows.x Subject: font path screwed up after installing XView Message-ID: <8848@helios.TAMU.EDU> Date: 5 Oct 90 20:22:57 GMT Sender: usenet@helios.TAMU.EDU Reply-To: rajeshg@diamond.tamu.edu (Rajesh Godbole) Organization: Texas A&M University Agricultural Engineering Department Lines: 30 hello, we are having a problem running the X server after XView fonts were installed. the xview distribution was ftp'd from expo.lcs.mit.edu. xinit does not find the default font fixed and exits, dumping a core file with an error message: Fatal server bug! could not open default font 'fixed' XIO: fatal IO error 32 (Broken pipe) on X server "(null)" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining. running just plain Xsun -fn '7x13' -fp '/usr/lib/X11/fonts' gives: failed to set default font path '/usr/lib/X11/fonts' Fatal server bug! could not open default font '7x13' I tried deleting the fonts installed by xview and running mkfontdir again, but it doesn't work. we have a lot of X based stuff running on sun3's (3/50 3/60 3/260) the X is R4 compiled with gcc . the xview was also compiled with gcc.
