(Just interested.) As a side note, I think that the method of choice in the code change is incorrect. The original description said that the fallback should be used if the color request fails. This deals cleanly with all screen depths and visual classes, not just 8-bit PseudoColor and StaticGray. In any case, I don't like this solution myself because it is yet another syntax for the poor user to have to learn.
