This is the LINGO, an optional replacement for |> the Valhalla motor controller. The LINGO was demonstrated to me at my usual dealer's a few days ago. I don't know how the NZ agent had got it so quickly, but the bottom of the box had S/N 1 scratched into the black surface. We compared two lp12s with ekos. One had the lingo and asaka, the other the normal valhalla and troika. This was played through a LK280 + SPARK power supply and both helix and epos speakers. Overall impression was that the lingo + asaka was a bit smoother than the troika. Perhaps the detail came through a little more clearly but was less etched. I was not convinced that I should upgrade to the lingo as soon as supplies become available (November?), but it would be, depending on your local price structure, probably cheaper than the cartridge upgrade. One piece of gossip from the importer was that of about 100,000 lp12s out there, Linn expected between 40 and 60% to upgrade to the lingo. --brian -- Internet: brian@comp.vuw.ac.nz Postal: Brian Boutel, Computer Science Dept, Victoria University of Wellington, PO Box 600, Wellington, New Zealand Phone: +64 4 721000
