If you put a relay that switches that much current in a car, it may cost several dollars per car. Multiply that by 100,000's of cars, and ......... #2 reason: We don't need to.. (see #1) But on most European cars, you must have a parking light displayed on the road side only, and it must turn off when the car starts. As part of this wiring, you end off turning off the headlights. BTW, did you ever notice that import cars ALWAYS have separate brake and turn signals? You cannot license a car in most EC countries without same.
