Here is the latest news on to GTE/Contel Merger:

GTE Corp and Contel Corp said that they made all state and federal
regulatory filings the companies say are necessary to complete the
annouced merger of the two firms. They also made all the fillings that
they believe are required by 16 state PUC's.

No news yet on the date which the merger will take place.
