How about taking this to alt.religion.computers?

As for the usefulness of pointers, or whether they're the data-structure
equivalent of a GOTO, remember that most practical people in this world are
willing to accept that an occasional GOTO is useful or even desirable.

And, remember that C is nearly 20 years old! It's not the perfect tool for
every job, so what? You can't cook everything in a microwave oven, either.
