No matter how carefully I aligned the continuous form, 20 lb. paper, it would jam at least every three to four sheets. Most of the jams occurred because the paper perforation (where you tear the sheets apart and where the paper unbends coming out of the box) would move away from the platen while traveling between the print head and the paper bail. The print head would then crinkle the paper, the paper would jam at the bail, the tractor would continue to feed paper and in seconds my nice, neat narrative would look like junk. The solution for my two LA 50s was oil. I discovered that the three rubber guides on the paper bails rolled better when the paper bail rolled. I placed one drop of oil at each end of the metal paper bail where it is secured to the printer and turned and slid the bar several times. No more jams! I did not oil the three guides since they appear to be rubber and oil causes rubber to deteriorate. In addition, I found that a good scrubbing of the roller surfaces with an alcohol pad (isopropyl alcohol on a mildly abrasive pad) will increase the friction between rollers and the paper. After a lot of use, they tend to smooth out and the paper/roller lacks enough friction to turn them. - --- Sirius 1.0x * Origin: * Med TechNet * , Buffalo, NY 716/688-1552 (1:260/10.0) ------------------------------ Date: 10-14-90 (22:54) To: DENIS CICCARELLI Subject: MS-DOS DISCS From: FRANK MALLORY DC> I recently read, on a BBS, That It was possible to rad normal DOS Discs DC> on a Rainbow. If you have only the standard RX50 drives on your 'bow, you can read the single-side DOS format. Reading the usual double-sided DOS 360KB diskettes requires an IDRIVE. - --- msged 1.99L MSC * Origin: Silver Bullet - Silver Spring, Md. - 301-622-2247 (1:109/417) ------------------------------ Date: 10-15-90 (11:19) To: FRANK MALLORY Subject: RE: MS-DOS DISCS From: DENIS CICCARELLI Frank, Thanks for the reply. I am using an RX50 drive but I understand that the big difference with the RX50 format is the number or sectors as compared with standard DOS format. If this correct, how do I get around this difference so that I can read a standard DOS diskette? or is this an impossibility?
