I don't know a thing about Sun's automounter, but there is a PD version
called amd.  It's available by anonymous ftp from usc.edu.  We have it
installed here on Ultrix, BSD, and HPUX systems.  It's a bit of work
to build the mount maps the first time but has been worth the effort.
