It's not public domain (fully supported shareware, with a $29.50 registration fee), but the background transfers work just fine in the unregistered version so you can try it out to see if it's what you want. BGFT has several unique features, one of which is the use of the floppy drive as a 'file buffer'. This results in very reliable background transfers (DOS is not used by BGFT during transfers). Background transfers are done by a small TSR, approximately 33 KB in size, while a larger transient program provides a friendly user interface and terminal emulators, dialing directory, etc. Xmodem and Ymodem-Batch protocols are supported as is background dialing. Give it a try. The latest version of BGFT is 2.1, released in May, 1990, and should be found on local BBS's in file BGFTU210.ZIP. It can also be downloaded directly from a dedicated support BBS at 416-283-7157 (Toronto, Canada). --- Rick MacDonald I have no disclaimer for this posting - I'm one of the authors, and obviously biased towards BGFT! -- Rick MacDonald Spar Aerospace Ltd. macdon@ists.ists.ca
