Message-ID: <688@philica.ica.philips.nl> Date: 12 Oct 90 23:08:33 GMT Reply-To: geertj@ica00.ica.philips.nl (Geert Jan de Groot) Organization: Philips TDS, Innovation Centre Aachen Lines: 43 I hope anyone found how to get this in working order: I bought an ATARI PortFolio, and a serial port option. I need communication with another host (SUN) via the serial port to transfer files both ways, to and from the PortFolio. The glossy sheet tells 'the serial interface can be used to communicate with other computers'. How this is done is not told in the glossy sheet. The salesguy told me he didn't know how to do this, so I have the machine 8 days on trial to find out how to do it. The manual doesn't spend a single word on this; it does spend an overwhelming 4 lines of text on PortFolio to PortFolio transfer, but that's it. There is a facility to transfer files via the parallell port to a PC built into ROM, for use with the optional parallell port adapter. I haven't found how to transfer files via the serial port, except for the DOS COPY command. It works (without error detection) for file output, but file input loses text even on 1200 bauds. So, has anyone made this to work? Is additional software for the PortFolio required? How do I download that software? Do I need the parallell adapter for the first boot-up? Is [XYZ]modem or kermit available? If you happen to have software lying around to do this, *please* email me a copy. The 8-day period runs out next friday, so I'm in a hurry. Unfortunately, our site doesn't have FTP access, so I can't snarf it up myself.
