I have a Mac IIci, 8 megs of RAM, running MultiFinder, MasterJuggler (with 6 or 7 or so font files) and a good handfull of inits and cdevs. When I start PageMaker 4.0 and try to access its spell checker, I get a message that there are too many files open and I cannot use the spell checker. Because of this situation, other features of the program also do not work, in particular the hyphenation routines. Aldus says that this is a Mac OS system error, and that I should change the bootblock to allow more open files. They indicate that PM 4.0 generates a lot of temp files, that when combined with the MasterJuggler font files, inits, and cdevs, the Mac OS will not allow PM 4.0 to spell check, or allow the hyphenation routines to kick in. I am looking for your comments. Is the problem mine (I should cut down somehow on font files, or I should muck around inside the bootblock), or with Aldus (they should redesign the program), or a combination of both? I will post a summary of the replies to the net. But please, reply. I would like to have the benefit of the wisdom of the net. -- X-----------------------------------------------------------------------------X X David Baird xdab@midway.uchicago.edu X X University Computing Organizations d-baird@uchicago.edu X X University of Chicago (312) 702-7161 X
