  Hi, this happened to me for the first time over the past weekend, I did not
keep up with this thread before, so don't know if my solution has been mentioned
before.

  I was working on a small doc. about 3 pages long, then Word just locked up
when I wanted to load the help file.  I increased the memory allocation to
a couple hundred k larger than the suggested, then everything seems to be O.K.
again.
