I'm sure this has been discussed to death on the net before, so I hope I'm not starting a flamewar, but... I suspect that if the comapnies brought their prices down to something reasonable that people like college students could afford then there would be less pirating. Also if they offered incentives like little bonus things for people who registered their software.
