I don't understand the original criticism. Why not ask: "if the user interface on the Mac is so good, why are the extended keyboard's function keys useless out of the box?" The original Mac had no "help" key, nor did it have any function keys. This being the case, how can one expect that they will do anything without a rewrite of software?
