I don't presume to answer for CDC; you should check into their support organization. But I am reasonably certain that, while EP/IX 1.2.1 is less broken in an NIS sense than RISC/os 4.50, it is still more broken than 4.51, and the behaviors you report sound consistent with this brokenness.
