Pnews ate the first submission in this series of three, so articles 2 and 3 probably sound like they're coming from left field. After last week's note about the Heath/Zenith User's Group BBS (called "COM1"), I had a number of requests for further info, so I prepared three articles for c.s.z. readers. This first one details registration and subscription information for those interesting in joining HUG or HZUG or whatever it's now called. Article 2 describes the rules about using the Bargain Centre to take advantage of great deals on equipments from parts and components to entire systems. Article 3 describes the contents of just one of the COM1 Database areas; the ZDS-specific file area, where you'll find info about your Z- machine that won't be posted anywhere else. Either the Bargain Centre or the ZDS-specific info available on COM1 make the annual membership fee of around $25 well worth it, from my perspective. I post this not because I gain anything from it specifically, but because I believe that as the group grows, it will get more attention from Groupe Bull in terms of support and recognition of problem areas we ZDS equipment users run into. THAT's what *I* want. Here's that registration and subscription information I promised... ************************************************************************* Zenith Data Systems COM1 / REMark Magazine Subscription Information ------------------------------------------------------------------- New subscriptions are currently $22.95. A subscription can be obtained in one of three ways. First, by ordering one here on the bulletin board (the COM1 store in the Keyboard Shopping Club), second, by phone, using a credit card (VISA, MC, or AMEX), and third, by mail, either by using a check or money order made out to "HUG", or by supplying your credit card information. Our address is: The Heath Users' Group P.O. Box 217 Benton Harbor, MI 49022 Our phone number is: (616) 982-3463 Your subscription entitles you to receive our monthly magazine, "REMark", which contains articles specific to Heath, and Zenith Data Systems computer systems, as well as articles, general in nature, to IBM PC compatibles (of which Heath and Zenith computers are). Your membership will also allow you full access to this bulletin board system. If you haven't already looked, there are many, many, megabytes of free software for downloading to registered users. Full access here also allows you to order products from the "Bargain Centre". The money you can save there, will alone, pay for 'decades' of memberships! Last, but definitely not least, your membership puts you in touch with other Heath/Zenith computer users, from which, invaluable information exchanges can take place. *************************************************************************** REGISTRATION INFORMATION ------------------------ Registration on this Bulletin Board is NOT automatic as it was in the past with HUGPBBS. It will require that you logon, and enter your FIRST NAME, LAST NAME (as it appears on your ID CARD), and then insert your ID NUMBER as your password. Once this is done, our automated scanner will bump this system's database up against the subscription database, and, if you didn't make a mistake, give you full access. This should occur within 24 hours. WHEN LOGGING ON (AFTER YOU'RE REGISTERED) YOU MUST MUST MUST USE THE SAME FIRST AND LAST NAMES YOU USED WHEN YOU FIRST ASKED TO BE REGISTERED. If you have not logged on in the manner just described, you can re-logon from the 'SYSTEM FUNCTIONS' menu. From the 'TOP' menu, press 'S', then press 'L'. Follow the prompts for your 'FIRST NAME', 'LAST NAME', and 'HUG ID NUMBER'. If you have not been authorized within a reasonable length of time (say 24-72 hours), make absolutely sure your last name has been entered exactly as shown on your ID CARD, or REMark MAILING LABEL. If you're still confused, having trouble, or whatever, don't hesitate to give us a call at (616) 982-3463. Once you've been authorized, several important things should happen. First, you'll be able to download up to 1-megabyte of software per day. Second, you'll have FULL access to the message boards. Finally, you'll be able to order products from the Bargain Centre. *************************************************************************** "Moby" Dick O'Connor djo7613@u.washington.edu Washington Department of Fisheries *I brake for salmonids*
