Well I don't know the intrinsics on this problem, but what I do know
is that only those fonts are loaded that are required. And then it 
is possible to only really load them once the're needed.

My guess as to the problem is that either the font is not in the library.
This you can check with fontlib, also in the EmTeX-distribution.

Or it your fx.cnf file (or what you use a parameter file) does not 
contain the correct settings to find the fx_2986. This would be a 
typo in the file name, since the driver CAN find the path and fx_2488.fli
file.

Otherwise you should contact Ebenhart Mattes, but then you have to be
convinced that it's a bug and not you doing.
