Is there a way to make Latex put line breaks in the
long citations produced by 'apalike'?   

For example:
	[Smith and Jones, 1990]

Because Latex finds this unbreakable, it leads to lots
of 'overfull hboxs'.  I would like to avoid using
'sloppypar', if possible.
