We currently have our LaserWriter connected to a Zenith '386 AT compatible via a seriel port operating at 9600 baud. We use Excelan Ethernet cards connected to a partially implemented 15 computer LAN (no-dedicated server, awaiting a gateway to our WAN). Lacking a dedicated server to perform print spooling and dedicated file sharing I would like to connect the LaserWriter to a "black box" via either its seriel port or its AppleTalk port and in turn connect the "black box" to our LAN cable. I suspect that the Windows SPOOLER and/or configuration programs will have to be setup to explicitly recognize the LAN and attached printer. I can not even guess how the LaserWriter would handle multiple requests to print a document, or how the SPOOLER (Print Manager?) would interact with the LaserWriter in such a situation. Has anyone done anything remotely like this? Where should I look for relavent information? Who might I call/e-mail? barry floyd MIS - HRO - RPI
