Symptom: nn will loop continually when trying to connect to the nntp server. The message "Connecting to nntp server ... ok (posting permitted) keeps getting displayed over and over. What I've Discovered So Far: nn sends nntp a "LIST NEWSGROUPS" message. nntp tries to open /usr/lib/news/newsgroups. This file doesn't exist. The Cnews documentation only briefly mentions a newsgroups file, but doesn't describe how to generate one (if the docs *do* describe how, I apologize; I haven't been able to find it). When running nn 6.4 with no patches applied, this didn't happen (though other, more horrible, things did). Any ideas? There is mention of newsgroups being created as the result of a checkgroups control message, but I don't know what that means (in case it isn't obvious, I'm somewhat new to this). Thanks in advance (and to everyone who has answered my earlier queries!) -Eric Feigenson erf@progress.com (if that doesn't work, try ericf@zurich.ai.mit.edu) -- Eric R.
