When I saw the announcements for the 3000, I was all set. But, for now anyway, $4000 is more than I can spend. So, I've been eyeing adds for used 500's and 2000's. What I'd like is advice about which machine I should be getting. What I want/need is: * Memory -- 3 Meg would be about right. Is the 500 expandable here? (Side issue -- can my Starboard 2 expansion that I have now be used by a 500 or 2000?) * A 40 Meg (at least) hard disk is essential. Since I don't do fancy animation or sound stuff, I'm beginning to wonder whether I really need a 3000. Getting Workbench 2.0 would be great, of course. So would getting a hard disk and memory all as part of the package. But am I getting more than I need? What exactly *is* so great about the 3000? Would a used (or even new) 500 be right for me (I worry about expandibility)? How about a 2000? I've seen used 2500's but they are almost as expensive as the 3000's, so I'm not convinced they're what I want. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. -- Brian Russ CSE Department, UC San Diego ..!sdcsvax!bruss bruss@beowulf.ucsd.edu
