You probably answered this in your statement already but what I meant was:why didn't they *incorporate* one *into* the hardware since they already have incorporated so much. Not simply including one in the box, but building the circuitry into the toaster. They could design it themeslves as they have the toaster itself and they wouldn't have to pay anyone for the design.
