 the problem with the platen getting slpiiery is that the platen
"dries out" and hardens. the armour all or 'son of a gun' vinyl/rubber
protectants will keep the rubber as soft as it should be and fully functional..

You can buy "platen cleaners" at good office-supply stores (and DEC used
to sell 'em, maybe still does).  These come in packages of 5 or
10, and are rectangular pads, with a flexible plastic handle
that covers a breakable vial with fluid.  When you squeeze the
handle, the vial breaks, and the fluid is dispensed onto the
pad, which you then use to rub down the platen.  Not sure what
the fluid is but I think it is isopropyl-based.  Use one once
and throw it away (hardly ecologically sound, but...)

I spoke to her a couple of weeks ago, & she still had not moved.

Soft real-estate market I guess, waiting for the house to sell. Didn't
discuss Rainbow News, so don't know the status of that.
