In the past four months, I've had three HD floppies fail with bad
sectors.  These are Sony floppies that I use for daily backups on
two different machines.

This seems like an unreasonably high failure rate in comparison
with 800K floppies.  With my usage patterns, I've experienced
roughly only one failure per year with them -- that's an order of
magnitude difference!
