Subject: Feedback wanted on printing in a lab environment

Does anyone have any good solutions for either:
1)  Charging for laser printing on a per-page basis to recoup the
costs of paper, toner, new printers, etc...?

2)  Reduction of printing  costs by using low-cost, recharged toners, etc...?

We have received information on copy-card systems and have seen a demonstration.
I personally do not see how they would work well for us since we have a 
few un-staffed labs.  Does anyone have any alternatives to using a copy-card
system or having someone physically punch a card (ie an I/O counter) or collect
money. 

How do you deal with these problems at your institutions?
