I've had no problem installing thr V386 3.0.e Microport Text Pkg. on both
AT&T 3.2.2 and SCO 3.2.2 .  Which flavor are you using?  

Installpkg must be run as root from the console.  You might try using the
bourne shell if you've been using the kormn shell.
