Their appears to be some instructions that have been left out or that I have misinterpreted. It appears that you also require the file /etc/X0.hosts to exist and have your machine name in it. This may be because I am running TCP/IP. As a whole though, the X11R4 code does compile (after some complaining about NULL deing redefined in some of the files).
