It has to do with replying to mail once its received. For some reason, when an incoming message has a From: line that looks like: From: abstine@polymer.che.clarkson.edu (Art Stine) ^ some string when doing a 'r' in mail, I get a To: line that looks like: To: on abstine@polymer.che.clarkson.edu ^ where did THIS come from?? (on two of my other V4.0 systems, that string says: mon instead of on This seems to happen on all of our V4.0 systems except 1... that one uses the /usr partition from one of the other systems which has the problem. The systems are all stock - no mods to sendmail.cf... it doesn't seem to matter whether there are any .mailrc files or not... If I try to send mail the brute force way (ie, telnet to port 25) and construct a msg w/o the () string, then the reply doesn't contain this bogus string... Frankly, I'm baffled... anyone have any clues? thanks much art stine sr network engineer clarkson u abstine@image.soe.clarkson.edu
