i am looking for advice.  my application needs to be able to plot
simple 2D X-Y curves from data stored in a text file.  secondly, i
need to be able to pick off points from this window with the mouse,
and have the routine return the location of the nearest data point.
it's been a while since i've done any X programming.  there's a lot of
new libraries/widget creation software out there, and I don't know the
best libraries to start looking at for these types of routines.  any
ideas on where to begin?
